The Arish-Taba corridor is a strategic, multi-modal, export, transit and logistics corridor. It is the only corridor in the Sinai Peninsula, which has always been limited in development based on the peace negotiations with Israel, of which the condition was to limit security forces and development in the region.
However, the corridor was announced as part of the 7 corridors project, and since the War on Gaza and in Iran, this has gained momentum, specifically in the first half of 2026 as an alternative route connecting the Gulf, Iraq and Jordan to the Mediterranean (Middle East Observer, 2026; Enterprise, 2026). The corridor aims to connect to the ‘Arab Corridor’ that seeks to link Egypt with Jordan and Iraq but is also being embraced by the Gulf following the Iran war (EBD, 2026).
Although the corridor announced by the government focuses on the vertical line from Arish port to Taba port, as a means to export critical minerals and products from the heavy industries in the middle of Sinai and link the Mediterranean ports with the Red sea port (EBD, 2026; Egypt Today, 2026), there is also a transportation corridor implemented by the government that connects the North Coast of Sinai through road and rail for the first time in 57 years (Egypt Today, 2026), a well as the expansion of several other ports and the development of logistics zones for the main Sinai cities including Arish, Nuewibaa, Sharm ElSheikh and ElTor; and the development of new zones in underserved regions including Bir El-Abd, El-Hasana, and Naqab.
At the same, with the impacts of the war, a second Southern corridor is now being planned with the establishment of logistics zones in Taba and El-Tor for storage and packaging (Ismail, 2026) but goes beyond the scope of this corridor.
