Objective

The primary objective of the economic zone is to drive regional urbanization and industrial diversification by attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) and establishing a sustainable manufacturing base outside Egypt's traditional Nile Delta corridor. By embedding a specialized industrial hub directly next to a deep-water port, the zone aims to create a highly efficient "import-process-export" value chain that minimizes logistical friction for global markets. Furthermore, it explicitly targets the emerging global green transition, aiming to transform northwestern Egypt into a premier Mediterranean clean energy export hub that can reliably supply green fuels directly to the European continent.

Description

The Gargoub Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is a massive, multi-faceted industrial and commercial development spanning more than 50 square kilometers surrounding the new Gargoub Port. Strategically positioned on Egypt’s northwestern Mediterranean coast, the zone operates as an integrated economic enclave designed to blend heavy industrial manufacturing, urban logistics, and international trade. Its expansive footprint includes dedicated sectors for automated logistics parks, dry bulk storage, a massive grain trading hub, a global tourist village with a passenger marina, and the multi-billion-dollar "HYPORT Gargoub" clean energy hub, which houses large-scale green hydrogen and green ammonia production plants directly linked to the coast.
