Gargoub Port Terminal

Objective

The primary objective of the port project is to leverage Egypt's strategic northwestern coastline to establish the country as a premier global hub for transit trade and maritime logistics connecting Europe, Africa, and East Asia. By serving as a critical terminal for the new high-speed electric train network and the international coastal road, the port aims to maximize returns from international shipping lanes through streamlined container transshipments, specialized grain trading hubs, and dedicated green energy export facilities.

Description

The Gargoub Port project is a massive maritime infrastructure development on Egypt's northwestern Mediterranean coast, situated in the Marsa Matrouh Governorate. Spearheaded by the Egyptian Ministry of Transport, the mega-project transforms an area of more than 50 square kilometers into an expansive naval, commercial, and civilian port network. The completed and ongoing construction includes up to 14 kilometers of new berths with depths of 17 meters, dedicated container and general cargo terminals, extensive breakwaters, and a total cargo handling capacity targeting 15 million tons alongside 5 million TEUs.
