Objective

The primary objective of the Damietta Port expansion is to transform the port into a strategic transshipment hub in the East Mediterranean, significantly boosting Egypt's maritime trade capabilities. By tripling the port's container-handling capacity with the addition of up to 3.5 million TEUs annually, the project aims to optimize cargo throughput, reduce vessel waiting times, and lower overall logistics costs. Additionally, the modernization effort is designed to integrate the port with domestic manufacturing zones via a dedicated green corridor, attract substantial foreign direct investment, and stimulate the local economy by creating an estimated 80,000 direct and indirect jobs by 2038.
